The Yulee sugar mill was used to make sugar for many years. Much of it went to the confederates during the
War of Northern Aggression. They made a thick molasses and sent it to be made into rum.  The Yankees burned
the house of David  Yulee who was a famous Floridians and our First senator. His father owned about 35,000
acres around Micanope. He owned 5500 acres near the mill and also built the first railroad from Homosassa to
Fernanda beach.
