Savannah 2010
The big question for people visiting Savannah is which is better Paula Dean's or Mrs Wilkes Boarding House, We
had eaten at Paula Dean's several times, but never at Mrs. Wilkes. We did make a special point to eat at Mrs,
Wilkes. Other than the fried chicken, I must say that Mrs. Wilkes beat out Paula Deans. Nancy agreed. Savannah
is a city of squares. We bought a day pass in a shuttle and traveled around from place to place rather than doing a
walking tour. It was just too hot, The Catholic Cathedral was extremely beautiful. We both think we would rather
live in Savannah rather than Charleston. We live in paradise now, so probably won't be moving any time soon
anyway, We stayed in a Campground about 15 miles South from the downtown area, but that wasn't a problem. We
think we will be going back as the weather cools down a little. We will probably stay out on the barrier islands next
time.

I have heard about Mrs. Wilkes's Boarding House for many years. We had to wait about an hour to get it, but it was worth it.
Nancy did the meal justice. I counted 25 items on the menu. Nancy has
chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, squash, butter beans, green beans, field
peas, greens, biscuit, blueberry cobbler, sweet tea, rutabaker, peas and
pasta, cabbage, cucumbers,
Lindsay had fried chicken, meat loaf, Brunswick stew, mashed potatoes,
butter beans, green beans, squash, dressing, sweet potato, peas and
pasta, biscuit, rutabaker, carrot salad.

The pineapple is a symbol of hospitality because when ship's captains
would come back from a long trip to the tropics, they would put a pineapple
on the gate post to signify they were home and that they had lots of food to
celebrate. This became the symbol for hospitality.
