Outer Banks of North Carolina
We spent several nights on the outer banks. We took the ferry from Swan Quarter after driving to Cedar Island. We had a 2hour wait
for the ferry, but it was very nice. Talked to a nice couple in a travel trailer. We stayed at Ocracoke at the Touches Campground.
Some unsavory characters there..Good dinner Captains Ben's. We took the free ferry over to Hatteras Island and stayed Camp
Woods in Frisco. $44 and it was nearly deserted. Winds very high and rocked the coach. Had free WiFi. Had a great dinner at the
Quarter Deck. Got lots of good pictures of both islands. We heard from the son of Captain Ben's that much of the island was in
foreclosure as the real estate market bubble had hurt them badly. Many of the homes were purchased as second homes or
investment properties with ARM's and value's had plummeted and it was strictly a buyer's market. Ocracoke was only about 1/2
open as the season had not really started yet. Hatteras, Kitty Hawk, Nag's Head and the other towns on the norther side of the outer
banks are much more populated and look to be mainly rentals
