Lady Bird Johnson Redwood Park
We left the Fairgrounds Park in Eurik and went to the Information center for the National and State Redwood park.
It was right on the ocean and the ranger was very helpful. We then went to the Lady Bird Johnson redwood grove
that was dedicated in 1968. It was an old growth grove of redwoods with a 1 mile trail through it with great
information about the trees. We were lucky enough to see 2 herds of wild Roosevelt elk. They were wild, but used
to humans and the large one was right next to the road. We went to the scenic overlook above where the Kalmet
river goes into the Pacific ocean. Later we camped very close to the other side and saw it from ground level. We
saw no whales unfortunately, but this is a great gray whale watching spot.
On the way to the LBJ park, we stopped by the Welcome Center right on the Ocean. Very nice natural beach.
One mile loop through the grove.
Very prime evil looking.
This is a redwood pine cone. The seed is the same size as a tomato
seed and grows to over 300 feet.
