We completely replaced the deck and are in process of replacing dock. Mary Lynn and Darryl came up one
weekend and we put the 5/4 decking on the deck. I had done all the demolition in the week before.
Unfortunately when I removed the old decking, I discovered that the joist underneath were not done properly. I
ended up putting in about 80 2 by 6 stiffeners between the joist and the joist were very stiff. My brother,
nephew, and I built the dock back in 1987 and the decking needed to be replaced. I used the conventional 2
by 6.
Deck and Dock
Heron on the dock. This happens daily. The chain is for hanging a swing.
Bald eagle eating a fish. Eagles will eat live or dead fish where a
osprey will eat only live fish it catches. Eagles will steal an osprey's fish.
Majestic. Can't get prettier than this. Mature eagles get their coloration at
about 4 years old. We routinely see the adults teaching the younger ones
how to fish.
Darryl helping on the decking of the deck. Use 5/4 which worked out
great. Notice how it is slanted i the front to make things harder.
The nice part of this was being able to sit while we worked. The camera
has turned my hair grey. I accidentally broke my Father's old hammer.
This is a fabulous back yard. It is also looking better and better.
Deck looks very nice and the paint job on the house and porch also.
