Fort DeSota Park
Fort Despots is a county park at the mouth of Tampa Bay. It was built to protect the bay in the Spanish American War
(When Nancy was a little girl). The Fort was later abandoned and then purchased by the county as a park. It about 500
acres and has a 250 site campground which is very nice and wooded. We have always wanted to stay here and it
worked out well with our plans to RV about one week a month until our next "big" trip. It is about 150 miles from our
house. We will stay here a couple of days and then got to Myaka River State Park. All in all it was a great trip here and
very interesting. Park had 50 amp service and WiFi at the ranger station. We were located about 5 miles from
Tropicana Stadium where they were playing the first game of the 2008 World Series. The Rays lost on a very bad call
from the Ref.
