Florida Chapter of Sons of Confederates Veterans Memorial
The Florida Chapter of the sons of Confederate Veterans has a memorial about 20 miles South of the Ga/Fl
boarder off of I-75. My grandfather's Father Quintus Richards was a veteran of this war from the Virginia 9th Cav,
Company E.. When the South lost the war, he left Northern Virginia and moved to Sandersville, Ga. His descendant
Richard Quintus Richards, Sr., was my grandfather. His son, Junior, was my Father, my brother is the 3rd and my
nephew is the 4th. The Civil War was an important part of America's history and also an important part of my
family's history. I much earlier days in Florida, we used to have the confederate flag displayed at grammar school
assemblies and also sang Dixie. It is sad to see this facet of American lore fade into obscurity. My double first
cousin, Frank Richards is a member of this organization and fights to keep these important memories alive.
