Columbia River Country
The Columbia River area was fantastic. We loved it and ended up spending an extra day here. Got a very good
Passport America campground. It has been getting down to freezing at night so we have been unable to boondock
as we need to run the heater. The town of Astoria is on the South side of the mouth of the river and Cape
Disspointment is on the North side. We went back and forth. Astoria is compared to San Fransciso as it is very
steep. The seafood was very good.
On the way to Astoria
What a bridge this is. Ocean going ships pass underneath.
Cranberry bog
There are huge areas exposed by the tidal action. Oysters and clams abound.
Many ships go up the Columbia River to the port to load up with raw
logs to go to Japan and China where the labor is cheaper.
Pleasure craft marina.
These shot staken from the hill above the city.
