Cape Cod and Mass
With MA having such high tax rates, we expected to see a very nice welcome station. We normally stop in welcome stations as we first
cross into a state to get maps and camping information. We were shocked to see such a shoddy welcome center. Did not even have any
Mass maps. There was a petition to have real bathrooms put in place instead of the Porta Potties. This was on a major Expressway also.
Very strange.
We ended up going over this bridge 4 times in the motor home. We were wider than the bridge and I just straddled 2 lanes. It was built in 1935 over
the canal and must have been 200 feet over the water. Very scary.
After boondocking for several days, we decided to stay in a great state park (Scusset Beach) at the neck of Cape Cod. It
was close to everything. Had 30 amp, and water. Nice bathrooms (although cold) and a dump station  strangely open only
from 8 AM to 12 noon. We were about 20 minutes from Hyannis and 35 from Falmouth. It was right on the man made canal
from the ocean to the bay. There were 2 bridges leading over to the Cape. They were about 200 feet off the water and we
ended up going over one of them 4 times (2 round trips) as we were confused about which side the campground was
located. The lanes were way too narrow (built in 1935) and we just took our 1/2 in the middle. We were going to leave the RV
in the parking lot here and go to Nantucket, but the ferry was down and only the high speed hydrofoil at $69 each was
available plus parking for the truck, so we decided to go to Boston instead. Had some great meals and the temps got down
into the 50's at night (This is June.).
