Biltmore House
We have been wanting to see the Biltmore House for many years. It was built by George Vanderbilt (grandson of
Cornelius) in the late 1800. It is the largest house in America at 4 acres or about 170,000 square feet. It has 43
bathrooms and 46 bedrooms. It is Amazing. The Grand Dining Room has 70 foot ceilings. Unfortunately no photos
were allowed inside of the house. We took quite a few outside and then many in the gardens. The house itself needed
35 workers to keep thing running smoothly and there must have been hundreds to work the 8,000 acres. They grew all
their own food for the workers, family and guests. There was a lot of game on the property also. They opened it up to
the public during the depression to keep the workers on board. Many families have had generations working there.
I never miss a bake shop.
Unbelievable woodworking through.
Nancy by a beautiful vine arrangement.
Nancy by a trash container.
Out on the 90 foot porch. It was very hot inside and this breeze felt good.
The gardens were very nice. It was raining off and on while we were there, but we saw them all.
Lots of Canadian Geese there. I found some great recipes on the Internet for them.
They planted corn in the middle of the fields with sunflowers around the
edge,
Nancy at the wine tasting. The wines were not too good.
There were wonderful rock walls and bridges all over.
Cedar tree growing up through a rock.
Neat handles for the garden store.
