After taking the Fort Oak Ferry, we decided to go to see the Ravine Garden State Park that was built during the Great
Depression by the WPA and was awarded a prize for being the best WPA project of 1937. There is a natural ravine for
a stream that runs into the St. Johns River. This stream was the major source of water for Palatka for many years and
the old water plant is at the mouth of the stream. There are many azaleas and bamboo in the ravine. There are many
walkways down to the stream and the area is very pretty. AT the entrance is a rock garden about 50 yard long and a
local stone replica of the Washington Monument about 90 feet tall. We also toured the Historic District of Palatka and
saw an old Bed and Breakfast we knew from our days in our Bed and Breakfast. The whole area is very beautiful.
